Oil Question....

Without getting into all the opinions about oil, as I'm sure everyone has theirs, I was curious to see who is using what and whether or not the product you are using helps 'quiet' the engine/trans noise. I was considering Mobil 1 full synthetic, because it is readily available. I understand the Amsoil is regarded highly, but requires an online order, as I can't seem to find it in stores. I also understand the Castrol synthetic is good, but haven't seen it anywhere. Little help anyone?

Amsoil, buy it from a VMC member. Most MC shops carry it, yes it does quit things down a bunch

You can get it sent directly to your door step from the Amsoil web site. As a preferred customer you pay the wholesale price just like the dealer. BTW I've been using it in my 09 Vision since 500 miles and it runs great. Cooler running, quieter, smoother shifting and a once a year oil change without worrying about warranty issues. Any other questions lemme know.

My bike came with Vic oil , has always had it and runs perfectly. Once the warranty is over i might change. But then again once the warranty is over might not be the time to "Experiment" If it aint broke.....................

Oh boy, you haven't been lurking around here long enough...lol Those are fighting words around here. I prefer (before I get flamed this is only my opinion...lol) to use Victory oil because I know it has been tested to work in Victory's. Yes there are several others but I have not seen any documented proof by a third party to substantiate manufacturer claims of their miracle oils... Just my opinion...

Don, I have done this on my 07 Hammer and on my Vision. After normally running Amsoil I changed my oil to Vic because I won some and it was at the dealer for something and I needed it changed. I got on the bike and thought something had gone wrong. After thinking about it for a minute, it was the oil allowing the engine to sound like a rattling bag of bolts. Changed it back after 2500 and it was back to normal. I have used it since 2000 and had my clutch slip once on my 02 TCD. I use 20/50 some use 10/40. To each their own, use what works for you!

I was going to use 10/40 as I am in a cooler climate, and have decided to go with Amsoil for a number of reasons, not the least of which is to quiet down the mechanical 'noise' from the motor/trans.

"It's your bike, so use what ever oil you think is best" he said, to no one in particular. Whatever you use, try mixing it 80% oil with 20% bacon grease. It won't run any better, but it will sure smell good when you start it up in the morning.

Do you need more help than this?
Since we have a lot of discussions on here about oils I decided to go to the Experts in this field, they put it to me this way. On my Left you have 20W50 and on my Right you have 10W40. Now where you are located and how you ride you might only just use one, like if you are from a North or Southern Region. Also if you are an extreme rider as some of you are and like to push your ride to the limit you just might have a use for both. Now both are a Full Synthetic with a JASO-MA rating and are good to go, even if you have a wet clutch. I hope this makes it easier for those of you who can't decide which oil to use. Try Amsoil and see the results for yourself. Note: I use Victorys 20W-40 Semi-Synthetic with equally good results my self.

Oil always leads into a shitty discussion is why I write use "what works for you". I always thought that metal against metal making a loud noise wasn't any good. But what the heck, I am trying the bacon grease!!! Regular Bacon or Canadian??? :) I can see KevinX's hair standing on end!!! :)

If you are using the Canadian brand, it is quite easy to tell, there should be a slight hint of Maple, mmmm!

Like you said use what works for you, I have a five year warranty and I prefer to use the oil the manufacturer reccomends. Like I said, I have not seen any independant testing of Amsoil when it comes to Victory. Will it work, yeah probably, but until somebody shows me something in writing from an independant source I have a hard time believing it. If I sip the Kool-Aid I would be on a Harley...

dsjr I couldn't agree with you more. If I were sitting on a 5 yr warr, I'd bet following the recommended service schedule to the letter. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury. I'm no engineer, but I bet their all good, the syn oils I mean. I was at the point where I was gonna change the oil anyways, and have no idea what is in the bike now. Don't really care. Bike is pretty noisy, more than should be IMHO. Hopefully, I can write you guys again next month and give you my opinion on Amsoil and how it guiets the bike..... then the fun REALLY starts about the oil products!! ....Jst kiddin

if you want real answers to your oil questions here's the only real way to get the answer what's best. Buy several different 'flavors' of oil that you're interested in trying. Run the oil, at 1000 miles do an oil analysis, at 2000 miles do an oil analysis, at 3000(if the oil is good good for continued use the test will tell you) and keep going until the oil is no longer recommended for use. Keep trying each brand until the UOA's tell you the oil is spent and needs to be changed. It'll cost you roughly $20 a sampling but will give you all the answers to your bike and your driving habits. Just don't use Oil Analyzers since they're owned by Amsoil and I see a conflict of interest there, plus they won't do TBN's on non Amsoil oils.

If you are implying that people who use Amsoil are followers and are "Kool Aid" drinkers my response to you Don would be f#$k Off. That being said. Back in 2000 a guy that goes by the name of Road Kill who rides a Vic did a whole bunch of INDEPENDANT testing on Amsoil and a bunch of other oils. Pretty much the same testing was as outlined above. Oh, did I mention that Road Kill is the highest mileage Victory rider EVER,(go to Victory's site to confirm, they wrote an article about him). He used to be on the VMC and was one of the founders that had a 99c. He has a yahoo site now that I go to every now and then, more tech stuff Vs everyday BS. Almost forgot, guess what oil he uses in his Vic????? Amsoil. So us Kool Aid drinkers don't know anything about oils. Heck we even mix saw dust with the oil. It's bacon grease next for me (Canadian of course). And if a added benefit to using a oil is a much quieter engine, that works for me too. Not going to honor a warranty because you don't use Vic oil. Please.. Use what works for you!! :) Have a day!!
