Hi.  Any advice for a first time buyer?  I see 08's for sale in the $16-17k range for the Tour Premium, and a new 09 would be at least $10k more... ouch.

What does an 09 have that an 08 does not?

How bout buying advice?  Prices, options etc...?  Any help would be great.

Also, how loud is the stage 2 factory upgrade on pipes?  I think I would like that, unless it is ridiculous.

Also:  is a street premium the same as a tour premium, just without the trunk?

Thanks!

Chrome Wheels, inproved sreakers

Shop around and get a few prices.  Decide what add ons you want and get it in the deal price or ask for 90 days on any Vic stuff at 10% OVER DEALER COST (i DID THIS)

Not loud at at. Over time they will get a tad louder.  I think over the winter I will get something a tad more aggressive.

Yep.  I purchased a tour but got the Backrest and luggage rack.  I use the trunk when I do longer trips.  The bags might not look that big, but I have loaded them with a ton of stuff.

Thanks, I see you say "no way" to my assumed price of an 09.  I hope you are right!  I was just going buy the website and MSRP.  Hopefully dealers will work with me.  Going to test ride today.

Thanks alot for any help.

Some who may have 08's might be discounting them just to move of the floor.  I purcased the 09 because of the 5 year warranty.  If you can, more $$$ to buy goodies.  It takes a while to feel the bike, at least it did me.  Now, I love it.

Get the 2008.  Last time I checked the free 5 year warranty comes with it.  Tour premium is the vision you want.

A private party by me has a 08 Tour Premium Black, asking $16,500.  It has 21k miles, and some add ons.  Looks really nice. Warranty till 10/2010.

I am wondering what a new 09 will be in comparison.? AND what I will get for the money?

5 year warranty is nice...

Where are you?  G&G has a 08 TP on the floor on consignment for 16500 (in Milwaukee).  Very low miles, like 2000.  Has some goodies, it's black.  Have not been up there in a few weeks, don't know if they sold it yet.  I live in Illinois but purchased mine there.  Nice guys.

I am in Long Beach, CA.

I think I would be a Street Premium guy most of the time, and put on the trunk when needed.  Is that common?

Or should I just get it all at once and go for it?  I bet once I have a trunk, I will not want to take it off.  Would be nice to have somewhere to lock my helmet.

From a Harley Road king, to the Tour Premium is quite a switch.....

'08 Street prem here, bought a demo with 500 miles and got the 5yr warranty as well. Negotiated price was less than $15k, but I bought the 3 year service package.

I didn't care for the look of the Tour, but I'd like to have the trunk in my garage if and when I ever get some vacation time in!

$1250 is pretty spendy for the trunk, but....

Wow.  If I can get an 08 with warranty for under 15k I may be having a really good day.  I am off to the dealer later today to testride....and shop....  He only had 2 on the floor and over the phone implied I would have to order one..

Is that normal?  Does everybody "design" their own and order it?  I am not that patient.

I originally started looking at Visions. I ended up buying the Kinpin Tour. I love the KP but if I did it over again I would buy the Vision.

With that said I personally would not hesitate to buy a new 08 over an 09. It would definately be a premium. In my case I wouldn't do a Vision Tour unless I had a regular 2up rider. I would go for a Street Premium and add the passenger backrest and luggage rack. If I needed extra cargo room I would strap on my Nelson Riggs sissy bar bag.

Used that is a different ball game. They are frequent low milers being put up for sale where someone has done the common adds. In that case I wouldn't care if it was a Tour or Street as long as it was a screaming deal. I could always remove the trunk and install a filler panel.

I am actually concidering keeping the KP and buying a Vision. I have a house up for sale and if I come out on it OK, I am looking at the second option as being the most realistic for me.

If you are going to buy from a dealer find one that is in stock. They are going to be more motivated if they have money tied up in inventory or flooring interest. Check out Cyle Trader online. There are lots of great deals, I would fly out of state for the right one. In my case I got a better deal off the dealer ad in Cycle trader then I was able to negotiate in the showroom.

Happy hunting!

The biggest option available on a 09 compared to an 08 in my opinion is the reverse option. Depending on how you ride and park your bike this might be important.
08 Torn Skulls Jackpot with Swept Exhaust also has S&S Intake

Sure.  I only use the trunk when I ride with the Girlfriend on longer trips.

I found that buying it as a package is cheaper in the long run.  So what happened on the test ride???

16k for a bike with 21k on it is two much.  You should be able to walk out the door with an 09 TP for under 22k and get the warranty.  In anothe few weeks when the2010's are announced you should be out the door for under 20k easy.  The 09's will drop like rocks after that.

What happened to the SKYY????

Thanks for the advice..keep it coming.

I did test ride and I love the bike.  Road a Tour and the bosses street premium that was lowered and tricked out.. and fantastic.

However:   The prices were crazy.  A black 09 Tour Premium was approx $26,500 OTD.  (none in stock also)  They had an 08 Tour standard that they were willing to deal on, but it is the dark red and not a premium... (I prefer a black premium).. and "the deal" is still going to be too high.

I am in California, and prices here (for Harley's at least) are always more for new because of our insane taxes and emission standard costs... I guess.

Anyone have better luck on prices...in California?

There is a black street (standard) at a local dealer... it is an 08, and is $19,300 OTD !  But, will I kick myself for not being a premium??

The used 08 black premium (private party sale) near me is willing to take 15,500 cash.  That is a good deal.  (21k miles, but some add ons, luggage, cover, etc..) *****that does make me nervous..

Am I about to spend roughly $27k for a bike that is selling for 15,500 one year later?

I need the Tour premium OTD around $22,000.  is that possible?

THANKK YOU !!

I believe it is possible. I have seen a new 09 Tour Premium OTD for less then 21K here in Georgia... Sorry that does not do you much good on the left coast (no offense).

I would go with the 09 if I had a choice but then it all comes down to funds... As usual.

Does Cali still have that funcy law when buying out of state??  What do you need to do if you buy a new one out of state?   Do you have to add that can or is the new FI good in 50 states.

You say the Vision costs are high. I you done a bike for bike comparison with a full dress HD, a GW and a BMW?
I have reverse and only used it 3 times but it's worth every cent. Of course it doesn't matter if the only thing important is price.

Sorry you made me think of this. HD has this page that pops up on gas mileage. It says 50 MPG until you read the fine print. Then it states that this model may not get 50 MPG. They took one model of the group and it got 50 MPG and mileage other models may vary. I have seen GWs advertised at $18,000 but never saw one on a showroom floor.

Most of the Victory dealers in my area will fine you a bike at another dealer and bring it in. Like car delaers do. Good idea to keep inventory down during these tough times.

Yes, CA stands alone in the world of prices and hassle for vehicles.  If I buy out of state it has to registered out of state and cannot be reg in CA until it has more than 7500 miles.

In theory, I could buy out of state and deal with that hassle, but I won't.  My reward is $26500 OTD for a Tour Premium.

It is beautiful, Ice Blue with wood dash panels, pipes, lowered 2", and chrome rear pads.  23,500 for the bike and all the extras.  The rest is tax and lic.

I am ok with it, but it is a lot of money.  I am debating this one or a black one.  And Wondering if i should wait a few weeks to see what happens with the 2010's.  A great deal would get me in an 09, but full price implies I have no reason to rush....it will always be available at full price....

best is to get the 2009 premium tour.

you will spend the money anyway so cheaper to buy the premium.

2009 has the 2008 problems fixed and better cams.

If youre in no rush then offer a price for the 2009 and wait t ill he says yes.

or get free stuff all installed for free.

Suprised that the 2009 are more expensive than up here.

Negotiate

don't forget that the 2010 models are hitting the floor soon: ie next month or so.  some dealers may even more anxious to cut a deal.

I did the street prem because of a great deal. Like you, I wasn't in any hurry- I told the manager of the place that either way I leave the store I'm a happy man- on my Kingpin or his Vision. I checked into some of the prices for the parts - trunk, backrest, etc.. and was quite surprised. I understand all the crap about market value- hell, I help SET market value in my field- but I also give concessions to loyal customers.

Bottom line- if you're going to upgrade, minimize the Vic parts, and go top of the line to start with.

Well,

I am going with black.  Now the question has changed to new or used.  I have found an 08 Tour Premium with 1 year left on warranty, 21k miles and some extras added to it for $15,500. (i did mention this in an earlier post).

I have the cash now that I did not 48 hours ago, so I could buy the used one.

Is a brand new 09 worth $10k more than a 08?

I know, 5 yr warranty... but is that it?  What is the "cam issue" or any bugs I would need to be concerned with on the 08?

Thanks
