In our ongoing coverage of the 2009 Victory Motorcycles, here’s scoop on the 2009 Victory Kingpin.  I’ll start with the returning features, and then I’ll get into what’s new for 2009.

As you probably already know, the Kingpin was designed with a stretched out style and enough power for both around town and highway speed riding. Like other models in the Victory lineup, the Kingpin is designed to accept a wide variety of accessories. The accessory count for the Kingpin line is now up to 293 items. Simply stated, you can dress this bike up any way you want.

The Kingpin was originally designed with comfort in mind and that has not changed for 2009. It features a low seat height, a true cruiser riding position and large floorboards that isolate vibration and provide for comfort and multiple foot positions while on the road.

The Kingpin has kept its Rising Rate Rear Suspension, inverted front forks and its distinctive flared fenders are part of its personality as is its 18-inch front wheel with the 130 millimeter tire. The aforementioned driver floorboards and heel/toe shifter are standard.

The returning features that you’ll find on the 2009 Kingpin are the 100 cubic inch, 1634cc Freedom engine with Engine Control Module and Closed Loop Fuel Injection that generates 85 horsepower and 106 foot pounds of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed transmission with overdrive.

Now, let’s get to the new features: For 2009, the Kingpin has been upgraded with a newly styled taillight that incorporates multiple LEDs that promise to produce twice the brightness while running or breaking. For the first time, the Kingpin is pre-wired for Cruise Control and can be easily added at anytime by the dealer.  Of course, like other accessories, an additional charge will apply for the Cruise Control. But hey, if you choose to add a Cruise Control, just having the wiring in place is a good thing as it saves you time and money if you choose to add this feature.

The Kingpin also receives a new headlight treatment that features easy bulb replacement by simply removing two 4mm socket head bolts. And yes, a 4mm Allen wrench is now included on the Unitool and it stows away under the side cover so you’ll know where it is when you need it. The headlight’s reflector is new as well and promises to provide a brighter, more uniform light pattern on the road. When on the High Beam setting, both 55 watt bulbs are illuminated.

Here’s a great, functional upgrade: The Kingpin now includes a new Fuel Pump and Fuel Tank. The Fuel Pump assembly is now designed to be easy to install and service.

Like all the 2009 Victory Cruisers, the Kingpin includes a new tilt sensor that shuts off the fuel pump if the bike tips over and keeps it off until the ignition key resets the system. And in the area of tip over protection is a new two-piece die cast foot peg that provides improved durability in the case of a tip over. The brake and shift lever pivot and are now made of steel and according to the factory are less prone to breakage if the bike happens to fall on its side. While it’s not the same as the Vision’s Tip Over Protection, it appears to be a step in the right direction.

If you’ve seen TheVOG’s videos on the 09 Victory Cruisers, one interesting change that Victory is billing as an improvement is the Tank Badges. While the previous models included a full color tank badge, Victory is launching a new monochrome tank badge that is promoted to be the badge of its second decade. Maybe Victory knows something that I don’t in switching from color to monochrome, but, I have to admit, it does look cool. If you would like to voice your opinion, go to the Polls section on TheVOG and cast your vote.

Speaking of Color, here’s the new Kingpin colors for 2009:

Solid Blue Ice, Solid Super Graphite, Two-Tone Blue Ice/Pearl White with Carbon stripe, Two Tone Midnight Cherry/Pearl White with Carbon Stripe and of course, Solid Black.

So, that’s the 2009 Victory Kingpin.

So, what do you think? Feel free to post your comments in this forum.

The price for the Kingpin starts at $16,399

While the '09 Kingpin's look good, and some of the new tech stuff is good, there are a couple of things I would like to see on a new Kingpin. 1) ABS or the option, 2) a double disc brake setup on the front, 3) Some additional Vic accessories to compliment small amount of luggage space.

Power is there, engine technology is there, as is the tranny. Looks are definitely there. Just needs to get out there with some unique (like electronic throttle control, ABS, dual front disc's, etc........ )  Love my '06 KP!

I am not sure of the two tone paint being offered. I agree the kingpin is the easest ride out there. I have added the victory exhaust package, along with the Arlen Ness Big Shot fuel injector timer, Ness drag bar and teardrop lights. The best add-on I did was adding the digital speedometer, huge improvement in looks style and more information then I can scrol thru. The electronic speedometer fits into the stock bezel, and requires re wiring on the front turn signals, however the connectors are included in the harness. To calibrate is simple, just tell it you have a 5 speed or six speed tranny.

I love my 05 kingpin, number 999 engine.
